In November of 1974, after graduating from Western Carolina and moving to Concord, Susan and Strick Dalton joined Kerr Memorial Baptist Church. At that time Kerr needed a pianist and asked Susan to fill that position. She played piano for 6 years. In 1980 Susan was asked to move to the organ when that position became vacated.
Susan was born and raised in Kings Mountain, N.C. where she was active at First Baptist Church. While attending WCU, where she majored in mathematics, she met and married Strick Dalton. She taught math and computer programming, and was a Technology Facilitor at Central Cabarrus High school until she recently retired.
Susan and Strick have two grown children, Erin and Erik. Erin is married to Rusty Plummer and they have one son, Jeron. The Plummers are active members of Kerr Memorial. Erik is married to Abbie Brady and they live in New York City where they are involved in Redeemer Presbyterian church.
Susan realizes that her talent for playing the organ was given to her through the grace of God. She feels that church music is not a show of a musician's ability but is a vehicle to transport a sacred message to the listener's heart.
